Corps Commander of the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport, Major General Nasir Shagaya, said the strength of any professional military institution lies in its ability to critically assess itself and continuously adapt to emerging operational realities.

Shagaya said his philosophy underscored the imperative of professionalism, operational competence, institutional discipline, and continuous innovation within the Corps.

He spoke on Tuesday in Benin City at the inaugural conference/pulling out ceremony of the NACST retired senior officers.

Shagaya noted that such conferences were not merely ceremonial gatherings but served as important strategic platforms for professional reflection, institutional learning, and collective problem-solving.

He explained that it provided an opportunity for commanders to exchange ideas, examine operational realities, evaluate emerging challenges, and collectively chart the way forward for the Corps in a rapidly evolving security environment.

The NASCT Corps Commander said there was a need to sustain core military values of discipline, professionalism, accountability, and leadership development.

He said the future of the Corps would be shaped by the quality of leadership being provided and the professional standards upheld across all levels of command.

According to him, "A professional and combat-ready force must be supported by a logistic system that is equally efficient, responsive, and resilient.

"The contemporary operational landscape in which the Nigerian Army functions is increasingly complex and multidimensional. Modern military operations are characterised by fluid threat dynamics, technological evolution, and heightened demands on operational sustainability.

"In such an environment, the role of logistics has become even more critical. History has consistently demonstrated that operational success is sustained not only by tactical brilliance and combat power, but by reliability, responsiveness, and resilience of the logistic system that supports the force.

"The Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport occupies a central place within this operational architecture. Our responsibilities extend among commanders and senior officers of the ongoing view, our operational commitments, examine institutional challenges, and explore innovative approaches aimed at strengthening sustainment initiatives and enhancing the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our logistics support system."

Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, Major General Adeboye Edegbite, said the conference was an opportunity to share knowledge, discuss challenges, and make positive contributions that would propel the Corps for a better future in terms of efficiency and excellent service delivery in line with the COAS Command philosophy.

He said NASST remained the centre of knowledge and capacity development where officers and soldiers of the Corps of Supply and Transport are trained to function within the ambit of the roles and responsibilities of the Corps.
