The Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, has commended entrepreneur Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, for advancing private sector investment in Delta State’s capital.
Azinge described the businessman’s expanding presence as a driver of economic transformation and urban renewal, noting its positive impact on the city’s development trajectory.
The monarch gave the commendation during a courtesy visit by Iyiegbu and his delegation to the Asagba Palace, where discussions focused on strategies to position Asaba as a leading investment destination.
He observed that investments across real estate, hospitality, and lifestyle infrastructure are reshaping the city’s outlook, boosting investor confidence and stimulating economic activities.

According to him, the projects have contributed to job creation, increased commercial activity, and the attraction of new capital inflows into the city.
The Asagba noted that Asaba is steadily evolving into a competitive urban centre, supported by a growing hospitality sector and a pipeline of major developments.
While acknowledging progress in Abuja, he stated that Asaba is emerging as a viable alternative, with Lagos remaining the only city comparable in terms of scale and commercial dynamism.
Highlighting ongoing and proposed initiatives, Azinge referenced the “Legacy of the Sun” waterfront project, which is expected to span over 351 hectares, as well as the city’s proximity to Onitsha, a factor he said strengthens its position within the eastern economic corridor.
He also emphasised the importance of innovation and technology in driving future growth, citing engagements with federal authorities and the presence of institutions such as the Digital Bridge Institute and Admiralty University of Nigeria as key enablers of development.

“These developments provide a strong foundation for building a technology-driven economy,” he said.
Reaffirming support for investors, the monarch assured that the Asaba community is open to partnerships that will drive growth.
“We are not waiting for the government alone.
There is much we can do as a community, and we are ready to support genuine investors willing to contribute to our progress,” he said.
Responding, Iyiegbu thanked the monarch for the reception and reaffirmed his commitment to sustainable investments.
He said projects such as Cubana Millennium City and the proposed Cubana Wonderland are designed to deliver long-term value.
“Our vision is to build a future anchored on opportunity, innovation and sustainability. We believe in the potential of Asaba and remain committed to its growth,” he said.
The meeting underscores growing collaboration between traditional institutions and private investors, seen as key to accelerating Asaba’s emergence as a major economic hub.
