A GROUP of women led by Sunmola Adijat Olashile, who is contesting for the Ogun State House of Assembly, Ado-Odo/Ota Constituency II seat, has celebrated the International Women’s Day in Lusada, Igbesa, in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The women marched through the streets chanting  “Give us our rights,” “Give us our mandate,” and “Let women lead.”

Olashile emphasised the importance of women, particularly in the home, stating that women are like salt in soup—without which, soup could not be enjoyed.

The theme of the event was “Breaking systemic Barriers: advancing women in leadership.”

Olashile explained that the programme was organised to encourage women in the constituency to stand up for their rights and participate in politics.

She noted that women are often sidelined in the political space, and, therefore, must rise together and say “enough is enough.”

She reminded the audience that the Federal Government has recommended 35 per cent inclusion of women in political participation, urging women to take part in governance and leadership.

She advised mothers to properly train their children, stressing that every child has the potential to succeed, if properly guided.

The women expressed their support for Olashile in the forthcoming election for the House of Assembly.

Support was equally declared for Senator Olamilekan Solomon Adeola (YAYI) for the Ogun West Senatorial District, who is running for governor.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Mr. Jimoh Olujimi, described Olashile as intelligent, well-educated, and courageous. He urged women to participate more in politics.

Also, the Ojeyi of Odan Land, Alhaji Arimiyau Agoro Sunmola, emphasised that women play a vital role in society.

He commended Olashile for showing interest in representing the people of Ado-Odo/Ota Constituency II, which comprises eight wards: Ejila Awori, Igbesa, Agbara, Ketu-Adie Owe, Alapoti, Ado I, Ado II, and Eere.

Agoro urged the people to support Olashile and Adeola.

According to him, since 1999, the district has not witnessed the level of development and representation delivered by the Senator. He added that if someone with such achievements becomes the governor of Ogun State, the state would experience significant progress. Olashile was presented with an award by the Southern Youth Forum, under the leadership of the National President, Ambassador Olakunle Olajide.

He explained that the organization is not politically motivated but focuses on youth development and empowerment in society. However, they chose to honor Olashile because she is one of their members and they have observed her positive contributions and activities within the community.

Olajide also commended the women, describing them as individuals deserving of great respect in society.
