An All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Oyedele Alao, has sought the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in ensuring nomination of a candidate for the 2027 general election is credible and transparent.

He said the party must not make the mistakes of the past when choosing its candidate for the election, adding taking the same route might be dangerous.

A statement by the APC chieftain sought the attention of the President regarding internal processes of Oyo APC, alleging some elements in the party were determined to repeat past mistakes, which led to defeats of the party.

He lamented that ‘’these lapses often stem from lack of due and transparent process, which undermines internal democracy, erodes trust among members and weakens the chances of the party at the polls, among others.’’

Alao, an engineer, urged President Tinubu to intervene by ensuring the coming selection and nomination processes are conducted with the highest standard of transparency, fairness and integrity.

He said it was only through due process that was open and accountable that the party could avoid the pitfalls of the past and present a candidate who would resonate with the electorate.

Alao hailed President Tinubu for the progress the country had recorded under his Renewed Hope Agenda, saying the policies and programmes of the President had impacted on sectors of the economy, inspiring hope and optimism among Nigerians.

He commended Tinubu’s efforts in confronting security challenges.

The aspirant said the current administration prioritised security in the allocation of trillions of Naira in the budget towards the modernisation of the armed forces, implementation of intelligence-driven policing and promoting community-driven peace initiatives.
