Founder, OAT Empowerment Initiative, Adetunji Olugbesan, has declared his intention to contest Ijebu-Ode Federal Constituency seat.

In his declaration statement released yesterday, Olugbesan said his political ideology was rooted in people-centred governance, with a strong commitment to ensuring that the benefits of government policies and programmes reached the grassroots.

“It is easy to speak about ‘the people,’ but for years, those words have not translated into real change. My mission is to ensure that everything meant for the people’s services, benefits and entitlements is effectively delivered to them,” he stated.

A seasoned tax professional with over two decades of experience, Olugbesan is armed with wealth of knowledge from both the corporate and administrative sectors.

Having participated in high-level boardroom engagements and led human resource operations in a major finance organisation, he has developed strong expertise in leadership, stakeholder engagement, and strategic decision-making.

He noted that his corporate experience had equipped him with the skills required to navigate Nigeria’s complexities of governance and public service.

“Politics is about managing people and creating opportunities. My experience in leadership and human resource management has prepared me to understand people, engage stakeholders effectively, and deliver meaningful outcomes, which remain the sole responsibility of good legislator,” he said.

Olugbesan further highlighted his ability to engage across all levels of governance, including federal institutions, assuring constituents of active representation and impactful legislative contributions.

“I will not be a silent representative. I will speak up, engage, and push for laws that directly benefit my people,” he affirmed.

Deeply connected to his roots in Ijebu-Ode, Olugbesan described his upbringing and longstanding ties to the community as a driving force behind his decision to serve.

“Ijebu-Ode is home. From my early days in local schools to my experience in the Ita Osun market, I remain deeply connected to my people. I understand their struggles, and I am committed to changing that reality.”

He stressed that one of the major challenges in governance is the failure to effectively “cascade” resources and opportunities from the top levels of government down to the grassroots.

“The problem is not always at the top; it is the failure to ensure that what is available reaches the people. Representation must be about impact going back to your constituency and making a difference.”

Olugbesan also addressed the need to reorient public expectations about governance, particularly the role of legislators.

“Legislation is a tool for social benefit, just as the budget is a tool for fiscal responsibility. My focus will be on enacting laws that improve healthcare, education, and overall welfare. Governance is not about personal favors but about sustainable development.”

He pledged to prioritise key sectors such as education and healthcare, ensuring that no child is deprived of basic learning materials and that public systems function effectively for all.

Olugbesan  concluded by reaffirming his commitment to inclusive governance, transparency, and accountability.

“I am ready to serve, ready to engage, and ready to deliver for the good people of Ijebu-Ode Federal Constituency”, he said.
