Assembly moves to restore signage at Akpabio stadium

Member representing Essien Udim and Chair of Committee on Business, Rules, Ethics and Privileges, Ukpong Akpabio II, yesterday moved a motion for restoration of the signage at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
The motion, brought pursuant to Order 3, Rule 1 of the Standing Order of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, seeks to, among others, mandate Ministry of Sports to reinstall the signage bearing the designation, “Godswill Akpabio Internationl Stadium”, above the main entrance.
Speaking at plenary, the lawmaker noted that on May 29, 2015, the stadium was renamed by former Governor Udom Emmanuel after his predecessor, Godswill Akpabio.
“Recall that in a bid to concretise the renaming, the state commissioned a signage bearing Godswill Akpabio Internationl Stadium, mounted above the main entrance”, he said.

He said 11 years after, the signage is nowhere to be found as it is scrubbed of any visible designation.
The lawmaker said motivated by the need to uphold standard and ensure documentation of the visionary, he urged the House to mandate the ministry to reinstall the signage bearing the designation above the main entrance.
The motion, seconded by Deputy Chief Whip and member representing Oruk Anam , Sampson Idiong, and supported by Deputy Speaker, Kufre Edidem, got the backing of other lawmakers.
