Association conducts unified examination for primary pupils

In Lagos State, the association’s Unified Mock Examination was simultaneously held in about 60 centres, with pupils reporting as early as 7 am. for the 8 am commencement.

State Controller, James Lartey-Lartey, said the examination was a preparatory tool that has stood the test of time.

He said the exercise, which began close to two decades ago, has played a vital role in preparing Primary Six pupils for external examinations.

“The examination started close to two decades ago and it is to prepare our Primary Six pupils for further examinations. It has been fruitful because it helps children identify their areas of weakness and strength, and where they need to focus as they prepare for future exams,” he said.

Lartey-Lartey cited past success stories to underscore the impact of the initiative.

“I remember about three years ago, a pupil in my school who prepared for this examination did not emerge among the top three.

However, after identifying and correcting his weak areas, he later sat for the Federal Government college examination, scored 78 per cent and secured admission. There are many testimonies like that, and I thank God for this examination,” he added.

He expressed optimism over turnout and performance, noting that several centres were activated across the state.

“Today, we are expecting large attendance from our various centres in Lagos. I will also be visiting some centres in Ikorodu and the Mainland. I believe the children will write with confidence and perform better. I pray and wish them success,” he said.

At some monitored centres, including Team Potters Gate Primary School, Rosemmauel Primary School and De Expert College, the exercise recorded full participation and orderly conduct.

Chairman of AFED Ojokoro LCDA, Meshileya Sunday-Samuel, disclosed that 275 pupils registered for the examination in the area and all were present.

“Our expectation is that one of our pupils will emerge among those to be honoured at the national conference in June. Their performance here will determine that,” he said.

Also speaking, AFED Lagos State Treasurer, Abioye Funmilola Elizabeth, noted that the annual examination serves as a unifying platform for member schools while preparing pupils for the government placement examination.

According to her, the questions are centrally set by the national body to ensure uniform standards across states.

Similarly, the Chairperson of Odi-Olowo Chapter, Leonard Alajemba, represented by Smart Alajemba, said the exercise helps assess pupils’ readiness and identify areas requiring improvement ahead of the main entrance examinations.

“The exam keeps the children mentally fit and helps teachers evaluate their level of preparedness before the final examinations,” he said.

AFED Lagos State Media, Communications and Information Officer, Sufi Olatunji Saheed, explained that the examination was conducted nationwide, including across local government areas and local council development areas in Lagos and other states, including the Federal Capital Territory.

He said the initiative aims to equip pupils with examination experience and boost their confidence ahead of the Common Entrance Examination.

Officials expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the exercise and reiterated their commitment to sustaining standards that would enhance academic excellence among pupils nationwide.
