The penultimate day of the MTN CHAMPS Grand Final at the Lekan Salami Stadium delivered high-octane drama as multiple medals were decided across track and field disciplines. In the Senior Men’s 400m, Team MTN’s Ezekiel Asuquo lived up to his top billing, storming to victory in 46.60s to comfortably outpace Benin Republic’s Jules Waiga and Wisdom Alexander.

The success continued for Team MTN in the women’s category as Miracle Uwem Donald shattered her Personal Best with a 54.07s run to claim gold, followed across the line by Joy Ayomide and Adepoju Adedoyin.

The Junior Men’s 400m provided the most intense race of the day, featuring a photo finish that saw David Dominion Udoh successfully defend his title for Nigeria. Udoh clocked a lifetime best of 46.62s to narrowly deny Ghana’s Kazali Iddrisu, while Tosin Esan rounded out the podium. In the Junior Women’s final, Treasure Okereke powered to a convincing gold in 53.30s, finishing well ahead of challengers Becky Ebiyade and Faith Ezechukwu.

The 200m semifinals showcased explosive speed as athletes battled for lanes in the upcoming finals. Ghana’s Marizuk Shaibu emerged as the fastest qualifier in the Senior Men’s category with a 21.05s dash, while Taofikat Sulaimon led the Senior Women in 24.40s. Among the juniors, Kazali Iddrisu bounced back from his 400m heartbreak to lead the men’s standings in 21.30s, and Chigozie Rosemary Nwankwo dominated the women’s field with a swift 23.53s.

In the field events, African bronze medalist Samuel Kure stole the spotlight in the men’s javelin. Kure launched a massive 79.39m throw—narrowly missing his lifetime best—to secure gold ahead of Prosper Eguakun and Oluwatobiloba Bamidele. Meanwhile, at the long jump pit, Gowon Oghenerunor clinched the Junior Men’s title with a leap of 7.22m, leaving Olaoluwa Akindunbi and Mekioniso Messiah to settle for silver and bronze respectively.
