Prominent Nigerian political figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Amaechi, and Aminu Tambuwal, led a protest in Abuja on Wednesday under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), challenging the stance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)'s refusal to recognise the party’s leadership led by David Mark.
The protest, which drew several party faithful, began at Maitama Roundabout and proceeded through major streets of the Federal Capital Territory, with demonstrators heading toward the electoral body's headquarters.

Other top figures present at the march included former Senate President David Mark and key stakeholders within the party, as protesters carried placards with inscriptions calling for the protection of democratic institutions and due process.

The demonstration reflects escalating tensions within the party, with leaders insisting on official recognition of their faction and urging the electoral commission to address concerns surrounding the party’s leadership structure.

During the march, Amaechi was seen addressing supporters from a vehicle, while participants maintained a peaceful procession.
In a statement shared via his X account, Atiku said the protest was intended to defend democratic values and draw attention to concerns about the role of the electoral body.

“Other leaders and I of the ADC are peacefully protesting against the partisanship of the electoral umpire,” he wrote. “Our patriotic stance is aimed at safeguarding our democracy and preventing the erosion of democratic principles.”
The development underscores ongoing internal challenges within the ADC, as stakeholders continue to seek clarity and resolution over the party’s leadership dispute.
