It’s the joy of every parent for their children to be successful in life. It is also in their desire to have children who will bury them when they transit to the world beyond. For Chief Israel C. Ogbue, a distinguished Nigerian boardroom statesman and former Chairman of the United Bank for Africa (UBA), he would definitely be proud of his daughter, Dr. Awele Vivian Elumelu, for putting every strength into giving him a befitting burial that any parent would be proud of. After the demise of Chief Israel on February 18, 2026, at the ripe age of 99, the Delta State-born administrator’s family announced burial arrangements, and the whole Delta State was on lockdown.

Her husband, billionaire businessman Dr. Tony Onyemachi Elumelu, CFR, alongside Dr. Awele and her siblings, teamed up to ensure the late patriarch was given one of the most befitting burials in the history of the Ogbue clan in Delta State. They spared no cost and also invited the who’s who across the country, who came to celebrate the life and times of the father and father-in-law, who coincidentally passed away on his 99th birthday.

Despite it being a sad and emotional situation losing a loved one, the patriarch lived an impactful life, dedicating his active years to nation-building and also investing in his children. Dr. Awele, who is one of his proud daughters, did not hold back in celebrating him. She was happy with the love and reception the late father received and the testimonies from those around him. The over one week burial celebration saw guests troop in from across the country to witness the final resting and pay their last respects to the great man. The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima; Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori; Senator Ned Nwoko; Hon. Ndudi Godwin Elumelu; and a host of other dignitaries attended the event, where they consoled and shared in the celebration of a life well spent with the family of the deceased, as Flavour lit up the event with his highlife music.
