Ogun State Police Command yesterday grilled six of the Awujale kingmakers of Ijebu-Ode, who were earlier summoned to appear at the command headquarters in Eleweran, a suburb of Abeokuta, the state capital.
There are nine Awujale kingmakers in Ijebu-Ode, including the Regent of Ijebuland, Ogbeni Oja, Chief Sunny Kuku, Chief Adebisi Adaran, Chief Abimbola Okenla and Balogun Agboola Alausa.
Kuku, a physician and co-founder of the renowned Eko Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos is the head of Awujale kingmakers and chairman of Awujale Interregnum Committee.
Three of the kingmakers are out of the country, it was learnt, while the remaining six are in Nigeria. The six who arrived the police headquarters some minutes before 10am were ushered into the reception awaiting the next line of action. They were accompanied by their lawyers.
The affected kingmakers were invited for an “interview with the Commissioner of Police through the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran.”
The letter, which referenced a February 2026 case of “bribery and financial inducement,” indicated that the invitation was for fact-finding as part of ongoing investigations into the allegations.
The Nation gathered that they were grilled for hours on matters surrounding the Awujale and nomination and selection process and financial inducement, which was alleged to be a contributory factor as to why the exercise remains stalled to date
The Deputy Olori-Ebi of Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Agunsebi Ile Nla of Ijebu-Ode, Otunba Oladokun Ajidagba, has filed a lawsuit against the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights against police invitation to clarify his role within the royal structure.
Speaking to reporters yesterday shortly after filing the suit at the High Court of Justice, Ogun State, in Ijebu-Ode Judicial Division, over alleged “bribery and financial inducement, “ Ajidagba said his involvement in family matters has been misinterpreted by detractors, adding that he is Olori Ebi, not a kingmaker.
He recalled that a media report had it that nine kingmakers were summoned over bribery allegations, but was surprised that the police invitation was extended to him, when he is not one of the kingmakers.
