Chairman of Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Ibrahim Yemaren, has reaffirmed his commitment to stronger collaboration with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to enhance security and tackle cross-border challenges.

Yemaren gave the assurance during a visit by the Controller of NIS, Seme Command, Comptroller Idoko Ejeh, to his office in Kankon, Badagry, yesterday.

He described the council as a critical stakeholder in effective delivery of immigration responsibilities, especially in border communities like Badagry.

The chairman stressed the need for sustained partnership to address cross-border issues, improve public awareness, and promote peaceful coexistence among residents.

Yemaren said his administration was ready to work with the NIS to promote security, lawful migration, and community development, while protecting the welfare and dignity of residents.

While lamenting a past incident in Igbogbele, where an NIS officer allegedly shot a resident, the chairman cautioned against recurrence and called for accountability, justice, and improved conduct among officers, especially those on field duties.

In his response, Ejeh urged residents to obtain the ECOWAS Biometric Identity Card for lawful and seamless cross-border movement.

He expressed concern over human trafficking and smuggling, noting that stronger collaboration with local authorities was key to tackling irregular migration.

He added that the service was undergoing reforms in passport, visa, and residency processes, and stressed the need for continuous public awareness.

Ejeh assured that the NIS would remain people-friendly, committed to protecting communities, and open to working with the council to achieve common goals.
