The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded at the state secretariat yesterday .
In a statement by its image maker, Musa Mohammed, a deputy superintendent. Mohammed, said a 60-year-old suspect identified as Pentecost Elijah was arrested.
It added that the situation is under control, stressing that no lives were lost or property damaged and urged the public against panic.

Part of the statement reads: “I wish to inform the general public of a suspected IED explosion which occurred on February 11, this year, about 0600hours within the State Secretariat Complex.“The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, Iyamah Daniel Edebor, led the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, Special Drone Unit and other Tactical Teams to the scene. “On arrival at the scene the operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Unit contained the explosion.
“The area was cordoned off and upon detailed search one unexploded IED was identified by EOD operatives and was rendered safe. No lives lost, no property destroyed.
“One Pentecost Elijah, ‘m’ 60-year-old from Otuan Community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, was arrested at the scene in connection with the incident. He is undergoing interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department and upon conclusion the suspect will be charged to court.”
