Bello backs Abejide for third term, urges Yagba constituents to re-elect lawmaker
Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has called on the people of Yagba Federal Constituency to re-elect the member representing them in the House of Representatives, Hon. Elder Leke

Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has called on the people of Yagba Federal Constituency to re-elect the member representing them in the House of Representatives, Hon. Elder Leke Abejide, for a third term.
Bello made the appeal on Sunday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Centre, Abuja, during the joint celebration of the 50th birthday of Deaconess Esther Modupe Abejide and the 20th wedding anniversary of Elder Abejide and his wife.
The event, attended by political leaders, stakeholders and dignitaries, provided a platform for the former governor to stress the importance of legislative continuity.
According to him, his support for Abejide’s third-term bid aims to consolidate and expand developmental gains within the constituency and Kogi State.

He argued that the impact of a third-term lawmaker surpasses that of a first-term legislator, citing experience, institutional knowledge and political influence as key advantages.

Bello explained that the National Assembly operates largely on seniority, relationships and accumulated expertise, noting that first-time lawmakers cannot quickly acquire such attributes.
He said ranking legislators are better positioned to chair key committees, influence policy, attract federal projects and effectively navigate the legislative process.
He added that lawmakers with multiple terms build cross-party networks, gain a deeper understanding of appropriation processes and command greater respect among colleagues, translating to tangible benefits for their constituents.

The former governor also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and economic reforms, conveying the support of Kogi stakeholders through the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, who attended the event.
“Kindly convey to Mr President our appreciation. The Governor and I are aligned, and we are calling on Hon. Leke Abejide and the people of Yagba Federal Constituency to support this vision. We want him to join our party, the APC, and return to the House of Representatives for a third term,” Bello said.
He emphasised that legislative service is not based on rotation but on continuity and capacity, noting that performance tends to improve with each successive term.
Bello also appealed to stakeholders, particularly aspirants from Mopa-Muro, to exercise patience and support Abejide’s third-term ambition in the overall interest of development, while acknowledging the importance of fairness and power rotation.
“I understand the aspirations of our brothers and sisters in Mopa-Muro,” he said. “It is indeed your turn, but there is wisdom in timing. Allow Abejide to complete a third term and bring greater development to the constituency. After him, the opportunity will come, and it will come stronger.”
He added that a first-term legislator may struggle to achieve even a fraction of what a seasoned, third-term lawmaker can deliver, especially in attracting federal presence and executing constituency projects. Continuity, he maintained, ensures that ongoing projects are completed, new opportunities are secured, and the constituency maintains a strong voice at the national level.
Bello concluded by describing Hon. Leke Abejide as a man of integrity, honesty, and dependable character, whose leadership has positively impacted his constituents. He congratulated the celebrants and wished them many more years of fruitful marriage, good health, and prosperity.
