Organisers of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon have promised a world-class 11th  edition  which holds today February 14, with major improvements aimed at boosting performance and enhancing the overall experience for runners and spectators.

The pledge was made at a press conference held at the Access Bank headquarters in Lagos, where Nilayo Sports Management Limited and key stakeholders unveiled plans for what they described as a landmark event signalling the start of a new decade for the marathon.

Managing Director of Nilayo Sports Management, Yetunde Olopade, said the 11th  edition represents renewed ambition for the marathon, which has continued to gain international recognition.

“This 11th edition is symbolic for us. It is not just another race, it signals the beginning of another decade of excellence, impact and global recognition for the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon,” Olopade said.

She thanked Access Bank, corporate partners and the Lagos State Government for their continued support, noting that their partnership has helped position the event as one of Africa’s leading road races.

Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment, describing the marathon as a major platform for projecting Lagos positively to the world.

“The Lagos State Government remains fully committed to supporting the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon because it continues to put Lagos on the global map in a positive light,” Fatodu said.

Group Head, Brand and Communications of Access Holdings, Maji, said the marathon has grown into a national asset, adding that it promotes youth empowerment, discipline and healthy living while strengthening Nigeria’s global image.

“We’re doing this because this is an opportunity to really elevate Lagos State and Nigeria. This does so much for this country that it can’t be taken lightly,” he said.

President of the International Association of Ultra Runners, Nadeem Khan, also applauded the organisers, describing the marathon’s growth over 11 editions as exceptional.
