BON to honor industry giants at 2nd Nigeria Broadcasting Awards in Abuja

The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) has announced that the second edition of The Nigeria Broadcasting Awards (TNBA) will take place on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the NAF Conference Centre in Kado, Abuja.
The ceremony, scheduled to run from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, marks the culmination of a rigorous months-long selection process aimed at recognising professional excellence and raising the bar for media practice across the federation.
Originally endorsed during BON’s 74th General Assembly in Kano in 2021, the awards have grown into a premier industry benchmark. This year’s edition saw a competitive field, with 204 entries submitted documenting broadcast performances from the 2024 calendar year.

The Awards Selection Committee was chaired by Dr. Danladi Bako, former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC). The panel included veterans and representatives from the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) and the NBC.
Winners will be unveiled in 24 categories spanning both private and public radio and television sectors. Key awards to be contested include: Radio and Television Stations of the Year; Best Reporter of the Year; Best Newscaster of the Year and Best Producer of the Year.

BON will also confer Lifetime Achievement Awards on several luminaries who have shaped the Nigerian media landscape, including: Engr. Shyngle Wigwe, former Director-General of the NTA; Ambassador Yemi Farounbi, former Nigeria Ambassador to the Philippines; Dr. John Momoh, Chairman of Channels Television; Malam Abubakar Jijiwa, former DG of the Voice of Nigeria (VON); Hajia Sa’a Ibrahim, the first female Chairman of BON and Mrs. Bimbo Oloyede, veteran broadcaster.
The ceremony will also feature posthumous awards for icons who have passed away, including High Chief Raymond Dokpesi (Founder of DAAR Communications), Mr. Timawus Mathias, Mr. Okokon Ndem, Chief (Mrs.) Anike Agbaje-Williams and Mr. Patrick Ityohegh.
Notable political and corporate leaders like Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation. State Governors: Prince Bassey Edet Otu (Cross River), Dr. Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), and Senator Uba Sani (Kaduna) and Mr. Obadiah Tohomdet, former Executive Secretary of BON will also be recognised for their sustained support of the media industry.
Corporate recognition will be extended to DAAR Communications Plc, MultiChoice Nigeria, Desmims Broadcasting (DITV), and the Voice of Nigeria (VON) for their roles in advancing the Nigerian broadcasting sector.
