The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed condolences over the killing of Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah and other soldiers in a recent attack in Borno State, while raising fresh concerns about Nigeria’s security situation.

The party, while honouring the courage and service of the fallen troops, linked the incident to what it described as a deteriorating security climate. It referenced the recent decision by the United States to withdraw some embassy personnel from Abuja, describing it as a sign of declining confidence in the government’s ability to guarantee safety.

The ADC criticised the Federal Government’s response to insecurity, stating that at a time requiring urgency, the administration appears focused on political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It noted that attacks across several parts of the country have become more frequent, coordinated, and destructive, leaving many communities exposed.

According to the party, the recurring cycle of violence and official response has produced limited results, adding that repeated assurances of “never again” have not translated into tangible improvements.

While acknowledging the efforts of security forces, the ADC said the underlying challenge lies within the broader system, stressing that the death of a senior military officer points to deeper structural and leadership failures.

The party added that Bola Tinubu, as Commander-in-Chief, bears responsibility for the nation’s security direction, and called for a shift in approach, urging the administration to prioritise the protection of lives through a reset of strategy and improved coordination.
