President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said the late social justice advocate, Mr. Tunji Braithwaite, would have been a valuable partner in advancing his administration’s vision of a just and progressive Nigeria.
The President spoke at the 10th anniversary of the late elder statesman’s memorial.
President Tinubu noted that Braithwaite’s ideals aligned with the current government’s efforts to strengthen its social contract with citizens.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, the President said Braithwaite’s legacy of principled leadership and advocacy for justice continues to resonate in national consciousness.

“If he were alive today, he would have joined hands with this administration to build a progressive nation, given that the APC stands on a progressive platform,” the President said.
President Tinubu described the late lawyer and activist as a symbol of integrity, a steadfast voice for justice, and a beacon for accountability.
He added that the late Braithwaite’s contributions remained a reminder of the value of ethical leadership and commitment to the common good.
The President urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from Braithwaite’s life and continue working towards a more equitable society.
Also, a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Bisi Akande, said Nigeria’s challenge is not a lack of intelligence but a deficit in consistent, principled leadership.
According to him, leadership should neither be transactional nor opportunistic but rooted in values that endure beyond political cycles.
Akande said the memorial offered an opportunity for reflection, urging Nigerians to demand leaders who act with integrity, serve without self-interest, and understand that power is a public trust.
He added that Braithwaite’s life demonstrated that leadership is measured not by electoral victories but by the enduring trust of history.
One of the late lawyer’s children, Omowunmi Braithwaite, said the event was organised to revisit the late activist’s life, ideals and contributions, and to reconnect with the values that shaped his journey.
In his keynote address, Ben Obi urged political actors to adhere strictly to democratic rules and prioritise national interest over personal gain.
