The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed its planned nationwide voter revalidation exercise until after the 2027 general elections.
The decision was reached on Friday after a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners, where key electoral issues were reviewed.
In a statement signed by National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, the commission said, “Following deliberations, the Commission resolved to postpone the exercise until after the 2027 General Election.”

INEC noted that the revalidation exercise remains essential to maintaining a credible National Register of Voters, as it is designed to verify records, correct personal details, remove duplicate or ineligible entries, and strengthen the integrity of the voter database.
The commission added that the exercise will also give registered voters the opportunity to confirm and update their information when it is eventually conducted.
