Werder Bremen President Hubertus Hess-Grunewald has defended the club’s decision to sign Victor Boniface, despite the injury risks that have ultimately cut his season short.

The Strategy: Quality over Quantity

The club’s plan was built on a calculated rotation between Keke Topp and the Bayer Leverkusen loanee.

Hess-Grunewald explained :“The idea was to have Keke Topp and Victor Boniface share playing time. We were aware Victor wouldn't be at 100% fitness, but his individual quality made him a vital asset even in limited bursts.”

Unfortunately, the gamble hit a wall. After tallying two assists in 11 league outings, a severe knee injury has sidelined Boniface for the rest of the campaign.

With his loan deal expiring at the end of the season, Bremen faces a difficult summer window as they look to replace the void left by the Nigerian powerhouse.
