The Commander 9 Brigade,T. A. Lagbaja Cantonment, Ikeja, Brig.-Gen Ayokunle Olufemi  Lagos, Owolabi has pledged adequate security for Igbobi-Sabe Kingdom and environs.

The commander made the commitment when he visited the monarch of Igbobi-Sabe, Oba Owolabi Adesina Adeniyi, at his palace in Mainland Lagos.

Gen Owolabi cited two important reasons for the visit: ‘’First, we’ll look at the security angle to it. This area falls under my control, and I see it as a point of duty to come here and get myself familiarised with the environment, so that in case there is anything of security concern, I will be able to address it promptly.

“The second, which is dear to my heart, is because of Kabiesi himself. When I took over the command of 9 Brigade, one of the most important persons I first came across was Kabiesi; and what drew my attention to him was the way he came promptly to the event we invited him for. And then I got more interested when I got to know that he bears the same name as me. So thank you so much Kabiesi, I appreciate you,” Gen Owolabi said.

Owolabi, who said the community was like a second home for him, having been born and bred in the area and attended Baptist Academy, a foremost secondary school in the area, added that the visit also served as an opportunity to implore Oba Adeniyi and his chiefs, as ears of the communities, to always avail him of information concerning security, “so that we can carry out our job justifiably and swiftly in order to keep Lagos safe and secure because it is our constitutional responsibility to do so.”

Oba Adeniyi thanked Gen Owolabi and his team for the visit.

He expressed his delight at having such a relatively young officer in that position, adding that this has further inspired him to start encouraging young people within his kingdom to consider taking up careers in the military.

“The first time we met was in your constituency there, and I was marveled at such a young officer heading a whole village; for you to head that T. A Lagbaja Cantonment, you must have been in the system for long or joined the Nigerian Army very young. And that has encouraged me to start talking to my people to let their young ones join the military. It is a great pleasure to receive you. I’m also delighted that we bear the same name – whether first or last.”
