Bose Ogulu, mother and manager of music star Burna Boy, defended her son against claims of arrogance during an interview on Channels Television.

Speaking with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Ogulu said she is unbothered by labels attached to her or her son.

She said public figures draw many opinions, and she prioritizes their actual identity over external descriptions.

Ogulu said understanding personal value and carrying oneself with confidence is self-respect, not pride.

She said knowing one’s worth and expecting recognition of that knowledge is valid.

She said societal expectations tied to skin color, nationality, and gender often pressure people to act in a reserved manner.

She rejects the idea of lowering oneself to meet those expectations, stressing that anyone who doubts her knowledge or Burna Boy’s can test it.

“I don’t mind, honestly, I don’t mind at all. I mean, any adjective they want to attach to you is ok. The thing is, who are you? If knowing your worth and carrying yourself as such is arrogant, then it is a good thing. And I can’t apologize for that. Because I think we were born into a world where we were expected to put our heads down.

“First is the colour of your skin, the color of your passport, and for me, my gender. So, I don’t understand the concept of that life. I understand that if I know something, I know it, and I expect you to realize that I know it. And if you don’t realize that I know it, then, put me to the test”, she said.
