Lafarge Africa Plc has graduated 15 female truck drivers, alongside five community drivers, under its “Women on Wheels” initiative at its Ashaka Cement Plant in Gombe State.

The ceremony marked a milestone in the company’s efforts to promote inclusion and address workforce shortages in Nigeria’s construction logistics sector.

The beneficiaries completed an intensive training focused on technical driving skills, safety compliance, and professional standards required for heavy-duty vehicle operations.

The Group Managing Director/CEO, Lafarge Africa Plc, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, described the programme as a symbol of progress and a shift in Nigeria’s logistics landscape.

He noted that the initiative is breaking stereotypes and demonstrating that competence is not defined by gender. He urged the graduates to maintain high professional standards and serve as role models in the industry.

Also, the Logistics Director, Osazemen Aghatise, and Managing Director of Ashaka Cement, Ibrahim Aminu, reiterated the programme’s impact in improving safety standards and helping to bridge the gap in driver availability.

The best graduating participant, Judith Baka, expressed gratitude for the opportunity, describing the training as life-changing.

Since its launch in 2019, the “Women on Wheels” initiative has trained over 100 female drivers, reinforcing Lafarge Africa’s commitment to diversity, sustainable employment, and the transformation of Nigeria’s construction and logistics sector.
