Former Chairman of Oyo East Local Government, Alhaji Adekunle Mutahir Adegboye, has expressed deep concern over the rising wave of insecurity across communities, calling for urgent and collective action to restore peace and stability.
In a statement, Adegboye condemned all forms of violence, kidnapping and criminal activities, describing them as serious threats to the safety and well-being of the people.
He acknowledged the efforts of government and security agencies in addressing security challenges but stressed that they cannot bear the responsibility alone.

Adegboye explained that such volunteerism should be disciplined, community-driven and focused on supporting security agencies through vigilance, information sharing and effective early-warning systems.
He was quick to clarify that volunteerism should not be mistaken for vigilantism, noting that it is a patriotic and lawful contribution that promotes unity and reinforces the idea that security is a collective responsibility.
The former council chairman urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups and civil society organisations to collaborate in building organised volunteer networks that operate under proper guidance and oversight.
“When communities stand together, insecurity loses ground,” he said, emphasizing that collective action remains key to winning the fight against criminality.
