Chisco Transport Limited has commenced the assembly of Yutong luxury buses and Sinotruk trucks in Lagos as part of efforts to upgrade its fleet and support the rollout of a new Drive-To-Own transport franchise.

The company said the initiative was aimed at ensuring sustainable fleet renewal, enhancing logistics operations and creating employment opportunities across the country.

The new facility, which also assembles other Chinese commercial vehicle brands, recently rolled out 80 luxury buses and 40 trucks to kick-start the franchise scheme.

The vehicles are expected to operate on routes connecting the Southeast with the Northern region, as well as provide premium services on the Lagos-Accra West Coast corridor.

Chairman of the Chisco Group, Dr. Chidi Anyaegbu, said the company remains committed to investments that stimulate economic growth, generate employment and improve the quality of life of Nigerians.

He recalled his early days in the transport business, noting that his motivation was driven by employment creation rather than profit.

“In 1981, when I ventured into transportation, I didn’t see it as the most profitable business. But I saw it as a business that would employ many people,” he said.

Anyaegbu explained that the Drive-To-Own initiative was conceived to expand road transportation services, including passenger movement, cargo and parcel delivery, while empowering operators.

Managing Director of Chisco Transport, Obinna Anyaegbu, assured that the company would continue to meet the evolving demands of road transportation and logistics services nationwide.

“Apart from moving passengers, we are also moving very critical items that are needed across the country. People are sending very important things, like medicines, and satisfying the customers is what our promise is. So, this responsibility is not to be taken lightly,” he said.

He urged interested applicants willing to participate in the Drive-To-Own scheme to submit applications through the company’s recruitment email channel.

According to Anyaegbu, the 53-seater air-conditioned Yutong luxury buses are equipped with cushioned seats, charging ports and onboard entertainment systems, while the trucks feature modern facilities, including sleeping compartments for drivers.

“The vehicles assembled at its new auto assembly plant in Iponri, Surulere, Lagos, would also be available for patronage by other transport and logistics operators,” he said.

A technical team from Yutong, led by Mr. Damian Lee, assured of continuous after-sales support for the newly introduced buses.

“Yutong will provide 24-hour technical support, faster spare parts supply and maintenance training. We will do our best to keep the buses on the road,” he said.

Some beneficiaries of the scheme said they had undergone adequate training and expressed readiness to deliver quality service while ensuring passenger safety and comfort.
