The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday led a high-powered security assessment team to Plateau State, a move seen as a major morale booster for frontline troops combating terrorists and other armed groups in the state.

Shaibu, who was received by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, was later briefed by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander, Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, Maj.-Gen. Folusho Oyinlola, who outlined progress made and coordinated efforts with other security agencies to stabilise affected communities.

Military sources indicated that the presence of the Army chief at the theatre of operations was expected to strengthen troops’ fighting spirit and reinforce their resolve to dislodge criminal elements threatening peace in Plateau state.

During the visit, Shaibu reassured residents of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging communities to support ongoing operations by complying with the curfew and providing credible information to security agencies.

A statement by the Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Colonel Apollonia Anele, said the COAS also engaged with community leaders as part of efforts to deepen civil-military cooperation critical to intelligence gathering and operational success.

Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, Dachung Bagos, described the visit as timely, noting it would boost public confidence in security operations, while Naraguta ‘B’ Ward Councillor Ladi Dangyok said the intervention reassured residents of the military’s determination to restore peace.

The Army said it would continue working with sister agencies and the state government to sustain operations aimed at neutralising threats and restoring lasting stability across Plateau State.
