Over 5,000 professionals from various sectors are expected to converge in Lagos for the maiden edition of the Corporate Olympics scheduled to hold on May 1 as organisers aim to promote workplace wellness, networking and a healthier work-life balance among corporate employees.
The organisers, Work and Wellness Ltd, disclosed during a press conference in Lagos where they unveiled activities lined up for the one-day sporting event.
Speaking at the briefing, the Technical Director of the event, Trebla Albert, described the initiative as more than just a sporting competition, noting that it represents a movement aimed at celebrating the human drive behind corporate productivity.
According to him, Nigeria’s corporate ecosystem is about to witness a unique convergence of business, wellness and competitive spirit as the Corporate Olympics debuts at the Landmark Event Centre.
Director, Experience, Engagement & Media, Ekemeni Ekerette explained that the event is designed as a landmark gathering that will bring together professionals from some of Nigeria’s leading organisations for a day of high-performance sporting challenges, wellness activations and collaborative competition.
“The Corporate Olympics is more than a sporting event; it is a movement that celebrates the human engine behind business performance,” Ekemeni said.
Project Manager of the event, Daniel Maduneme, said the initiative is structured to simulate a mini Olympic-style competition where corporate teams compete across several sporting categories.
“Corporate Olympics is a fusion. We would like to simulate it like a mini Olympics event where we are combining our regular sporting house events where sports houses compete against one another in several sports categories,” Maduneme said.
“But this time around we’re doing it in an Olympic style whereby there will be medals across each of the games and these medals will be scored based off participation rating on the live leaderboard.”
Maduneme added that the event will attract professionals from organisations across about 12 industries, ranging from large corporations to smaller enterprises.
He noted that beyond competing for medals, the initiative will create networking opportunities across different levels within the corporate structure.
“You are meeting with people from several other sister and brother organisations where you are interfacing with them and connecting while you are competing,” he said.
“It’s much more than competing for medals or trophies. You will be interacting with people in several organisations — C-suite to C-suite, managers to managers, regular staff to regular staff.”
He further noted that the event will feature about 20 activity stations, including high-energy sporting contests and recreational games designed to create a vibrant atmosphere for participants.
Participants will also experience cheerleading displays, fitness sessions and other wellness activities aimed at encouraging relaxation and team bonding.
Brand Team Lead for Corporate Olympics, Abisola Jide-Ojo, said the event was designed to give corporate professionals an opportunity to step away from the pressures of work and engage in recreational activities.

“Many times it’s all about work, work, work. No time to play, no time to relax,” she said.
“People want to go to the gym, people want to have time for themselves, but there’s no time for it. This is what Corporate Olympics is about — to create at least a day for people to come unwind.”
Jide-Ojo explained that the sporting lineup includes snooker, mini golf, basketball and relay activities such as sack races, which she described as familiar games that many people enjoyed during childhood.
“Leave work, leave the KPI, leave the targets — just come here, unwind and have fun,” she said.
Also speaking, resource person for the event, Maje Ayida, said companies can participate by registering corporate teams, sponsoring activation zones or partnering with the organisers as strategic collaborators.
He added that such partnerships would help promote workplace wellness, improve employee performance and encourage a culture of healthy competition within the corporate environment.
Organisers also expressed optimism that the Corporate Olympics will become an annual Workers’ Day event aimed at strengthening workplace relationships, promoting wellness and encouraging collaboration across Nigeria’s corporate sector.
