A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of a man, Chidiebere Justice Mark, in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) over an alleged false claim that Nigerian military personnel are poorly fed.
Mark, said to reside at Plot 88, Sabo Lugbe, Abuja, was arraigned on a three-count charge filed by the DSS. The charges stem from a viral video posted on his X handle, “Justice crack,” in which he allegedly made the claim.
He pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him. Following the plea, prosecuting counsel, E. Orubo, sought a date for the commencement of trial and urged the court to remand the defendant in DSS custody.
Defence counsel, Marshall Abubakar, made an oral application for bail, but the court declined to consider it, directing that a formal bail application be filed.
In her ruling, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ordered that the defendant be remanded in DSS custody and adjourned the case until May 25 for the commencement of trial and hearing of any bail application.
