The Kaduna State High Court will rule today on the bail application of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, following an amendment of charges by the prosecution and the withdrawal of one co-defendant.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) had, on March 18, 2026, arraigned El-Rufai alongside the Managing Director of TMDK Terminal Limited,  Ahmadu Sule, before the court in suit number KDH/KAD/ICPC/01/26.

The initial charges included abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud and conferring undue advantage, among others.

However, with the amended charge, Sule has been dropped from the case, leaving El-Rufai as the sole defendant.

At yesterday’s proceedings, the amended charges were read, and the defendant took his plea.

The prosecution subsequently confirmed the withdrawal of Sule from the case, narrowing the trial to the former governor alone.

Counsel to El-Rufai, Ubong Akpan, told reporters: “The motion for bail was taken. The court took the plea of the defendant, and the prosecution amended the charge and removed one person, leaving only Mallam El-Rufai to face prosecution.”

He added that the defence would require time to study the amended charges.

The case was adjourned until today.
