The Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) has donated household and essential items worth N60 million to 11 orphanages across the state.
The initiative, led by Lagos State governor’s wife, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, was carried out during the sixth edition of the presentation of relief items to orphanages, held at the Banquet Hall of the Governor’s Wife’s Office in Alausa, Ikeja.
The donation comprised intervention materials and cheques to support education and medical needs of children in the beneficiary homes.
Mrs Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed COWLSO’s commitment to supporting vulnerable children and underserved communities, describing the initiative as a reflection of compassion, unity and shared responsibility.

She said since the programme began in 2020, over 70 orphanages had benefited from the provision of essential items and financial support running into several millions of naira.
According to her, the intervention has grown from N5.5 million in 2020 to N60 million in 2026, underscoring the administration’s increasing focus on social welfare and inclusion.
The governor’s wife said the beneficiary homes were selected through a rigorous and transparent process conducted by a 33-member committee drawn from the five IBILE divisions of Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos and Epe.
She said the selection was based on structured assessments and critical evaluation of needs to ensure fairness and impact.
Items distributed included smart televisions, deep freezers, standing fans, washing machines, air conditioners, generators, gas cookers, mattresses and pillows, 5KVA inverters, canopies, food items, beverages, toiletries and soaps.
Mrs Sanwo-Olu said the donations were tailored to address specific gaps in the homes and improve the living conditions and overall well-being of the children.
She hailed members of the committee, IBILE group heads and the central coordinating team for their roles in the success of the initiative.
The governor’s wife also lauded caregivers and management of orphanages for their dedication, describing them as “builders of hope and shapers of the future.”
She pledged sustained investment in people-centred initiatives and called on stakeholders across government, private sector and civil society to support efforts aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable children.
