Commissioner of Police (CP) Oyeniyi Yemi John has assumed duty as the 24th Commissioner of Police in Delta State, succeeding CP Aina Adesola.
Oyeniyi, born on March 5, 1969, in Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State, brings over two decades of policing experience across operations, administration, investigation, and training.
He holds a B.Sc. in Sociology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and an M.Sc. in Public Order and Information Management from the University of Uyo. He also obtained diplomas in Personnel Management from the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, Lagos, and Community Policing from the Police Staff College, Jos.
He joined the Nigeria Police Force on June 10, 1994, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, and was first deployed to Akwa Ibom State Command in 1996.
During his career, Oyeniyi served in key investigative and administrative roles, including Officer-in-Charge of General Investigation and Anti-Fraud Units in both Akwa Ibom and Delta State commands.
He also worked in Zamfara, Enugu, and Ogun State commands.

Between 2007 and 2010, he participated in international peacekeeping missions under the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS) and the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS).
He later served as Assistant Commissioner of Police at the Advanced Training Wing, Police College, Oji River, and at Ogbomosho Area Command, before becoming Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration) in Ondo State Command.
In May 2025, he was appointed Commissioner of Police and Deputy Head of Interpol National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja, a position he held until his deployment to Delta State.
Oyeniyi has attended several professional courses, including the Strategic Leadership and Command Course at the National Institute of Police Studies, Abuja.
He is a member of the National Institute of Police Studies and an associate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management.
Described as disciplined and strategic, he is known for his expertise in criminal investigation, anti-fraud operations, and police training.
He is married with children and enjoys music and football.
