The Community Protection Guards (CPG) in Zamfara State have arrested suspected bandit gold buyers and suppliers in Gusau, as part of ongoing efforts to curb insecurity.

The State Commandant of the outfit, DIG Muhammad Shehu Daligent (rtd), disclosed this during a press conference in Gusau, noting that personnel from Gusau Sector One intercepted 98 landmines en route to bandits in Bindin village, Maru Local Government Area.

Daligent said the operation reinforces claims that illegal miners are collaborating with bandits in the state.

“It is a well-known fact that bandits have taken over Bindin village, and anyone currently residing there is either a bandit or a collaborator,” he said.

He added that eight suspects were arrested in connection with the incident, while one remains at large.

Items recovered include the vehicle used to transport the 98 landmines, 25 accessories, 25 detonators, three new motorcycles, and a sum of ₦13,352,500. The suspects comprise the driver conveying the explosives, a supplier of landmines to bandits, and seven individuals identified as gold buyers linked to the criminal network.

"Today you see what I have been saying previously, that, this Banditry has the support of big and small people. DIG Daligent (rtd) said.

The CPG Commandant also said, it's unfortunate for people to supply such a large quantity of dangerous Explosive Divised to bandits and huge sum of money.

"Emerging these quantities of landmines reach the hands of the bandits, how many lives will they Kill? They are planting it targeting security agents. DIG Daligent (rtd) said.

The CPG Commandant upheld Governor Dauda Lawal for purchasing security gadgets that enhance their work.

"We just started, as you see we are getting into the roots of the matter and we will continue to fight, no compromise until Zamfara becomes peaceful. DIG Daligent (rtd) said.

While speaking to journalists, the driver compassed to be delivering items to Bindin village the bandits den for a year but vowed not to be aware of the contains while the supplier also compassed to be assigned to deliver the landmine and other 50 accessories to the driver by one Salisu Dan Zuru who is at large, a Gold dealer in Gusau for onwards transporting to Bindin village.

DIG Daligent (rtd) said, the 8 suspects will be handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
