Lagos State Government yesterday said it had intensified efforts to dismantle a growing network of fake motor vehicle documentation racketeering, warning motorists to avoid unauthorised agents or face legal consequences.
The alert followed the discovery by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation that some individuals were issuing forged Roadworthiness Certificates and other vehicle particulars to unsuspecting motorists across the state.
Authorities said the practice, driven by criminal syndicates, undermines regulatory systems and poses a threat to road safety by allowing unverified vehicles to operate on public roads.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said vehicle documentation remained a statutory responsibility of duly authorised government agencies, stressing that any document obtained outside official channels was invalid.
He warned motorists against patronising illegal operators, noting that doing so exposes them to prosecution and compromises public safety.
“This is a serious offence. We urge all motorists to desist from engaging unauthorised agents, as such actions not only violate the law but also endanger lives,” he said.
The government said it was working with security agencies to track and apprehend those behind the racket, adding that enforcement had been stepped up across the state.
“Anyone caught engaging in these activities will face the full weight of the law,” the commissioner added.
