A coalition of civil society organisations has criticised the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, over the prolonged neglect of renovation works at the lawmakers’ quarters and the Assembly complex gate.

The group, operating under the aegis of The Osun Masterminds, expressed concern that the projects have remained uncompleted for years despite budgetary provisions.

As a reminder, the roof of the Assembly quarters was removed for renovation in 2023, and work on the complex gate has stalled since then.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Executive Director of TOM, Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli, said repeated demands for explanations from the Assembly leadership had yielded no response.

“We have repeatedly demanded answers from the Osun State House of Assembly under Adewale Egbedun on the abandoned Assembly quarters and the Assembly gate. These projects have been left unattended for almost three years without any explanation to the people of the state,” he said.

Oyedokun-Alli accused the Speaker of failing to ensure transparency and accountability, alleging that citizens' concerns have been ignored.

He questioned why the projects remain incomplete despite annual appropriations running into billions of naira, describing the situation as unacceptable.

According to him, the Assembly’s inability to deliver on what he termed “minor projects” raises concerns about its stewardship of public funds.

The coalition called for immediate intervention by the Assembly leadership and demanded a clear explanation of the projects' status, urging their swift completion in the public interest.
