Socialite Cubana Chief Priest has responded to criticism for backing President Tinubu's re-election bid, questioning the logic of tribal allegiance in Nigerian politics.

In a statement on his Instagram page, Chief Priest emphasised that national interest should supersede ethnic considerations, saying Nigerians should prioritise unity for the country's prosperity.

He praised Tinubu's strategic approach to politics, noting that he had supported Muhammadu Buhari from another tribe and waited eight years before becoming president himself.

Chief Priest urged supporters to back a leader with a clear vision and structure, stating that this approach would benefit their future.

He wrote, “If as an Igbo man supporting Tinubu is a betrayal, what is a Yoruba man supporting Obi? We can only be Nigerians for us to prosper in Nigeria. Wetin your governor wey get immunity see align with na wetin una wan make common business man like us to battle. Tinubu is 20 steps ahead, can’t you guys read the lines? How can we comfortably decide to fail again, all in the name of being tribalistic? For Tinubu to become president, he motioned to Buhari, a Hausa man, and waited for 8 years before he could become president. Na him be that EMILOKAN wey baba dey shout.

"Tinubu served! Leaving Tinubu to support any other candidate for this election is like not looking both ways before crossing the road. Follow who know road, stay with a person who gets structure so that you sef fit tap in & plan for your own better future. We don’t fight, protest, scream, yell, or even Kpai ourselves & nothing changed. We don even do sit at home for years, nothing changed. Like this, the only option is for us to serve & get settled. Only Time Will Tell. If you can’t beat them, You Join Them. Umunne, it’s better to be inside than outside. Think. Am well, join @cityboy.movement_hq”.

The socialite's comments come after he shared a video of Igbo businessmen donating buses to Tinubu's campaign, declaring that their goal was to ensure Tinubu's victory and make him popular among South-Easterners.
