Nigeria’s top cyclists have begun preparations for the National Track Championship as part of the build-up to the 2026 African Track and Para-Track Cycling Championships in Abuja.
The event will take place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome in two phases. Para-Track events from May 9–11, followed by the main Track Championship from May 13–17.

According to Cycling Federation Technical Director Bashir Mohammed, the preparation phase is crucial.
“This is a critical step in assembling a strong Team Nigeria contingent,” he said.
Cyclists are currently undergoing structured assessments and competitive evaluations aimed at selecting a merit-based national team.
With Abuja set to host competitors from across Africa, organizers are focused on presenting a well-prepared and competitive Nigerian squad.
