A Bauchi-BASED political group, the Kaura Force Movement, has expressed solidarity with Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, who doubles as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, amid persistent rumours about his possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The group, led by the Commissioner for Natural Resources Development, Muhammad Maiwada Bello, launched the Kaura Force Movement on Monday, pledging to defend the interests of Mohammed ahead of the next year’s general elections.

At a press conference yesterday, Bello, acknowledged that discussions on the governor’s alleged defection were ongoing at a high level in Abuja, although he did not mention any individuals involved.

He said the group had seen the reports circulating on social media about the governor’s purported move adding  that its members would continue to stand with him regardless of whatever political decision he eventually takes

He noted that discussions about the governor’s possible defection were still ongoing at higher political levels and that it was awaiting official feedback.

According to him, the group would align with the governor’s final position once it is formally communicated.

“We have seen on social media that the governor purported defection has been trending on social media, if you look at the statement we have  issued at this press briefing. We are here to show our solidarity regardless of where his excellency is going.

We are going to work towards that direction. “ the Commissioner stated.

Speaking on the launching of the group, the commissioner described the movement as a response to a “defining moment in our political history,” calling for the need to protect credible leadership.

“Governor Bala Mohammed is a tested statesman, an experienced administrator, and a courageous voice for democratic accountability in Nigeria. His administration is grounded in performance, fairness, and the delivery of tangible improvements for citizens,” Maiwada said.

Describing the launch as a demonstration of “deep public confidence,” the Commissioner said the Kaura Force Movement is committed to supporting the governor in future political contests, including purchasing his nomination form and providing at least 50 percent of campaign logistics.

The Nation recalls that the Bauchi governor has been rumored to be  considering defecting from the  PDP to the APC.

The governor is said to be weighing the possibility of leaving the PDP, with reports indicating that the move could happen this week.

The development has reportedly generated disappointment and concern within the PDP, particularly among allies of Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State and a key figure within the party.
