From Okungbowa Aiwerie, Yenagoa

Prince David Iyeke, a Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, has commended Senate President Godswill Akpabio for affirming the Federal Government’s readiness to create Anioma State in the Southeast geopolitical zone.

Iyeke, an aspirant for the state legislature, described Akpabio’s remarks as clarifying the issue and aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to justice and equity. He noted that the comments validated the advocacy of Senator Ned Nwoko, who has invested significant time and resources over the past two years to advance the creation of Anioma State.

“For the past two years, Senator Nwoko has dedicated effort to raising this advocacy into a legislative and constitutional process that is now nearing actualisation. The speech of the Senate President during the South-South Zonal Convention vindicates our senator, proving him sincere and committed,” Iyeke said.

He also criticised political actors in the Delta North Senatorial District for allegedly attempting to derail the initiative, asserting that President Tinubu’s clear stance provides confidence in the success of the project.

Iyeke added that in the history of representation in Delta North, Anioma people have not had a more sincere and high-performing representative than Nwoko. He said the senator has inspired him, and vowed to emulate his people-centered approach in Ika North-East Constituency in 2027 if elected, prioritising constituents’ welfare above personal gain.

He said, "The update provided by Mr. Senate President shows why there is so much confidence and appreciation for Senator Ned Nwoko and his style of service to the people of Delta North Senatorial District.

"We understand the battles he is fighting to liberate the Anioma people from those who want to own it for themselves and their children alone, to give opportunities to Anioma sons and daughters who deserve a fighting chance at something great.

"Delta North Senatorial District is indeed grateful to receive Mr. President’s assurances, and we are ready to massively re-elect him for a second term, with bulk votes from Ika North-East Local Government Area.’’
