Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested four suspected cultists in separate operations and recovered firearms, ammunition, and illicit drugs as part of ongoing efforts to combat cultism and violent crime in the state.
Spokesman Bright Edafe, a Superintendent of Police, stated that in the first operation, carried out on April 11, 2026, police operatives attached to Delta Shield nabbed a 32-year-old suspect, Peter Onajite, at Orerokpe in Okpe Local Government Area.
Edafe said a search on the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made double-barrelled cut-to-size pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, and sachets of suspected Tramadol.
He asserted that the suspect confessed during preliminary investigation to being the leader of the Juris Confraternity.
"He remains in custody while investigations continue," he said.
The spokesman said that in a separate operation on April 12, 2026, at about 1:00 p.m., operatives attached to Ibusa Police Station foiled a suspected cult initiation at Jordan Road, Ibusa, following intelligence reports.
He said the operation targeted a group linked to a suspect identified as Chinedu Onyeama, who is currently on the run.
Edafe said three suspects, including a female, were arrested at the scene.
Recovered items, according to him include an English-made Beretta pistol with one round of live ammunition, three battle axes, a hammer, a cutlass, and 39 firelighters.
The police spokesman said the suspects are in custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism, reiterating the Command’s commitment to tackling cultism and related crimes across the state.
The CP assured the public of sustained operations to ensure safety and security.
