The Delta State Police Command has commenced an investigation into a viral video alleging that some police officers assaulted a woman and subjected her to more than 40 strokes of cane.
In the video circulating on X and other social media platforms, the victim was seen narrating how she was allegedly brutalised by the officers.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into the allegations.
Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Bright Edafe, said preliminary steps had begun to verify the circumstances surrounding the incident and establish the identities of the officers involved.
He said the matter had been referred to the appropriate investigative unit for discreet handling, while efforts were ongoing to ensure that all personnel implicated were identified and brought to account.
Edafe urged the victim and the activist involved in the case to visit the command and provide all necessary information that would help identify the officers and aid the ongoing investigation.
He stated that the command condemned all forms of assault, brutality and abuse of citizens, stressing that such conduct was inconsistent with the ethics, standards and core values of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police reiterated that the command would not tolerate any action that violates the rights and dignity of members of the public, adding that any officer found culpable would be dealt with decisively in line with the Police Act and other extant regulations.
He said the CP emphasised that professionalism, discipline and respect for human rights remained non-negotiable under his leadership.
The police also assured the victim of confidentiality, protection and full institutional support throughout the investigative process.
The command asked the victim to contact the Office of the Police Public Relations Officer or the Complaint Response Unit through 09155570008, 09011112311, 09064308018, or 09066575187 to assist ongoing inquiries.
Members of the public with useful information, eyewitness accounts or additional video evidence were also encouraged to come forward to support the investigation.
