The Delta State Police Command has prosecuted 68 traffic offenders in Warri and Asaba as part of intensified efforts to enforce road safety regulations across the state.

The offenders were arraigned before mobile courts in Warri and Asaba, as well as the Magistrate Court in Okwe, following a joint enforcement operation involving designated judges and magistrates.

Police spokesman Bright Edafe said on Sunday that the arrests were made for various traffic violations, including unauthorised use of number plates, driving against traffic, and failure to register vehicles.

Breakdown of the offences, according to him, showed that seven persons were charged for unauthorised use of number plates, five for driving against traffic, and 15 for driving without registration numbers.

He said two others were prosecuted for unlawful use of sirens and revolving lights, while 15 were charged with road obstruction.

Edafe added that 13 offenders were arraigned for driving with covered number plates, and 11 for driving without a valid driver’s licence.

The spokesman noted that vehicles with unregistered or concealed number plates were often linked to criminal activities and used to evade security checks.

He stated that all offenders were fined in line with the Delta State Traffic Management Law and the National Road Traffic Regulations.

The Command's spokesman said: "We are strengthening collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Delta State Traffic Management Agency to sustain enforcement and improve road safety.

"We urge motorists to comply with traffic laws, properly register their vehicles, and carry valid driving licences."

The Command warned that it would continue to enforce a zero-tolerance policy on traffic violations in the state
