For many grassroots supporters, small acts of support from political leaders can provide hope and motivation for a better tomorrow.

This belief formed the foundation of an empowerment programme organised in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State by Nicholas Efele, the Executive Director of Planning, Research and Statistics at Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).

The top DESOPADEC executive used the initiative not only to assist residents, but also to emphasise the importance of leadership that prioritises the welfare of ordinary citizens.

Efele’s empowerment programme was held in Koko, headquarters of Warri North Local Government, where 100 beneficiaries drawn from the 10 wards of the council received cash gifts of N50,000 each.

The programme, with the theme: “Empower the People for Tomorrow’s Followership”, was aimed at supporting grassroots party members and improving their welfare.

Efele expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve the people and explained that the initiative was designed to strengthen grassroots engagement and provide support to party faithful.

He stressed that political leadership should always prioritise the welfare of followers, noting that even modest support could positively impact people’s lives.

“The party belongs to all of us, and what makes up the party are the people. We may not be able to buy vehicles for everyone, but little support matters. Like the church, the party should nurture its members and support them at the grassroots so that their hope for a better tomorrow will not die,” he said.

Efele also encouraged beneficiaries to make good use of the funds and urged party members to remain hopeful, noting that the administration of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had performed well in delivering development projects.

He cited projects such as the Ogbonbiri Road project and the completed Tebu water project as examples of the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and living conditions.

The DESOPADEC official called on party members to support the All Progressives Congress and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending the Federal Government’s efforts to improve the nation.

Efele paid tribute to an APC chieftain, Michael Diden, whom he described as a mentor in the “school of politics.”

Diden says the empowerment initiative is a way of appreciating supporters and giving back to the people, noting that political offices come with the responsibility of empowering followers.

He expressed appreciation to Governor Oborevwori and former Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, declaring that President Tinubu would be re-elected in 2027.

Diden used the occasion to announce his intention to contest the Delta South Senatorial seat in the next election, expressing confidence that he would secure victory across the eight local government areas in the district.

The APC Chairman in Warri North Local Government, Omatsele William, commended Efele for the initiative, describing the programme as a step towards building a better future for the people.

Former Deputy Chairman of Warri North Council, Dio Tenga, described the empowerment as commendable and urged other individuals to emulate the gesture by supporting grassroots communities.

Other speakers at the event included Abigeal Princess, who highlighted the importance of empowering women, and Ese Sanko, who noted that the organisation had played a significant role in producing leaders in the state.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Ayiba Tiemo from Ward 8, expressed gratitude for the support and promised to use the money judiciously.
