The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has approved the appointment of Lambert Bibowei Harrison as the substantive Director of Sports of the Bayelsa State Sports Council.

The appointment comes months after the retirement of Sir Braveman Wodi, during which Andrew Ayi has been serving in an acting capacity.

According to the Commissioner for Sports Development, Honourable Baraladei Daniel Igali, the appointment takes immediate effect, with a mandate to reposition Bayelsa State among the leading states in sports.

Harrison brings considerable experience to the role, having served in various capacities within the state's sports administration. Most notably, he was Secretary of the Planning Committee for Team Bayelsa's contingent to Ogun State at the 2024 National Sports Festival, where the state finished third overall. He held the same role when Bayelsa State won the inaugural Niger Delta Games in Uyo, edging out Delta State in a result that drew widespread national attention.

The new Director of Sports is expected to hit the ground running in pursuit of Governor Diri's ASSURED vision, as the state prepares for the upcoming National Sports Festival in Enugu and looks ahead to its historic hosting of the same event on home soil in 2028.
