The wife of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mrs. Mutiat Disu, has promised to leverage the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) programmes to improve the welfare, healthcare, and empowerment of police officers’ wives across Nigeria.

A statement yesterday in Abuja by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the First Lady, Busola Kukoyi, said Mrs. Disu announced her plan after a closed-door meeting with First Lady Oluremi Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.

Addressing reporters after the meeting, Mrs. Disu, who is the National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), promised to tap into the First Lady’s wealth of experience and the wide-ranging interventions of the RHI for the benefit of members of the association nationwide.

“The purpose of visiting her is to tap from her wealth of experiences and to know about programmes she has for the masses, to see how the POWA can benefit from the programmes,” she said.

Mrs. Disu was excited that her interaction with the First Lady had already provided valuable insights into the opportunities available through the initiative.

“I have learnt so much from her within this short period that I have spoken with her. I am sure by the time I start working with her, my people will benefit more from the RHI programmes.

“We will be looking at the RHI social intervention and healthcare for police families too,” she said.

The POWA president expressed her readiness to collaborate closely with the First Lady to ensure that police officers’ wives, who form the bulk of the association, are adequately captured in the initiative’s women-focused programmes.

“What the people should expect from me is that I am ready to work with Mama on this RHI as it affects our women, since the RHI is basically for women and POWA is dominated by women,” she added.

Mrs. Tinubu had urged Mrs. Disu to prioritise the welfare of police officers’ wives, stressing the importance of sustained support structures for families of security personnel.

The IGP’s wife assumed leadership of POWA following the appointment of her husband, Olatunji Disu, as the police boss on February 24.
