A lecturer with Lagos State University, Dr Mohammed Olalekan, has urged persons with disabilities (PWDs) to embrace self-leadership.

He gave the advice during a Leadership Training Programme for Persons with Disabilities in Badagry.

The training with the theme: “Building Strong Local Leaders for Community Development,” was organised by the Centre for Media Advocacy for the Disabled.

It was organised in collaboration with Olorunda Local Council Development Area and Association of Persons with Disabilities, Badagry.

Speaking on the topic: “Self-Leadership and Personal Effectiveness among People with Disabilities,” Olalekan stressed the need for self-belief, discipline and accountability.

“You need to take control of your life and examine who you are. You determine your future.

“You must be self-motivated, accountable and responsible. You can also become a channel of support for others,” he said.

He hailed the council chairman for demonstrating commitment to the welfare of persons with disabilities.

Former Vice Chairman of Albaisim Association, Lagos State chapter, Mrs Victoria Adesanya, emphasised the importance of ethical leadership and sound decision-making.

According to her, effective leadership requires integrity, faithfulness and the willingness to guide followers in the right direction.

Chief of Staff to the council Chairman, Mr Akinyele Cornelius, advised participants to pay attention to the training, assuring them of the council’s support in implementing outcomes from the programme.

Executive Director, Centre for Media Advocacy for the Disabled, Mr Sejoro Ekundayo, said the training was aimed at strengthening leadership capacity among persons with disabilities.
