After a meltdown, followed by his trademark tantrums, US President Donald Trump was all huff over his crushing tariff defeat at the US Supreme Court.

He lashed out at the 6:3 blow: “They are just being fools and lapdogs, for the Rhinos and the radical left Democrats.”  What (un)presidential vomit at the jurists, including John Roberts, the US Chief Justice, for only doing their job!

Just imagine President Bola Tinubu unleashing such tirade on Chief Justice of Nigeria Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and her apex court peers, just because the executive lost a case!  Or any of President Tinubu’s predecessors spewing such at the Supreme Court!

Then, Trump’s not-so-hidden quid-pro-quo.

Even if three liberal judges -- Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson -- were standard Trumpian ogre as “radical left Democrats”, Trump in his insane anger expected two conservative judges -- Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett -- to desert the law and rig their verdict for him: just because he had appointed the two!  And that, in a democracy of “saner climes”, that will clock 250 years in July!

Nigeria’s democracy is under 40 years.  Five years of the 1st Republic (1960-1966), plus four years of the 2nd Republic (1979-1983) is nine years.  Add the near-two years (January 1992-November 1993), of the still-birth 3rd Republic, under Gen. Ibrahim Babangida: with a National Assembly; and elected governors with state legislatures.  Then, add the 27 years (by May) from the 1999 return of democracy: 38 years in all.

Could the military, even at the apex of their ruling madness, have scalded Nigeria’s apex court like that, without earning a thunder of media fury?

Yet, Trump was not done, thumbing his nose at the law: “... I, as President of the United States of America,” he thundered on his Truth Social platform, “will be, effective immediately, raising the 10% worldwide tariff on countries, many of which have been ‘ripping’ the US off for decades, without retribution (until I came along!) ...” -- an irredeemable narcissist there, digs deeper into the hole!

“Christian” Trump should know what the scriptures say about what you spew destroying you; not what you gulp.  He knows that cup won’t pass over him!

Other than his bad global examples, his conduct doesn’t concern Hardball. Americans, more than anyone, know elections have consequences: you enjoy or endure!

The question here is self-loathing Nigerians ridiculing their essence; and glorying the so-called “saner climes”, with Trump’s America always the top pick.  Yet, here we are: a Nigerian president, in democracy less than 40 years, will never sink into Trump’s sewer manners, and his unfazed pandering to executive outlawry!

The moral: treasure your essence.  The grass is not always greener elsewhere -- and Trump is the perfect grating example, though America’s democracy is 250 this year.
