Christian faithful in Jigawa State have offered special prayers for divine intervention for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Umar Namadi, and other leaders, urging success in efforts to tackle the nation’s security challenges and all leadership responsibilities on their shoulders.

The prayers were held at the Evangelical Church Winning All in Dutse as part of activities marking the 2026 Easter celebration.

Participants also prayed for peaceful political activities, campaigns, and the successful conduct of the 2027 general elections, as well as the emergence of credible leaders at all levels.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the service, the Chairman of the Jigawa State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Fr. Maurice Kole Hassan, said the Easter gathering provided an opportunity for Christians across the state to thank God and seek His intervention in Nigeria’s affairs.

According to him, the current wave of insecurity across parts of the country calls for deep reflection and collective prayers.

“We are gathered to celebrate Easter and to thank God for His blessings. It is also a time to pray for peace in Nigeria, especially considering the security situation in states like Plateau, Benue, Kaduna, and others,” he said.

Hassan stressed that peace remains indispensable to national development, noting that without it, social and economic activities would be crippled.

“Peace is priceless. Without peace, people cannot worship, go to markets, or carry out daily activities. Even though Jigawa is relatively peaceful, we must not be indifferent to the suffering of others,” he added.

He called on Nigerians to seek God’s face through repentance and unity, stressing the need for both Christians and Muslims to work together for national cohesion.

The CAN chairman also urged leaders to govern with the fear of God and a sense of responsibility to the people, “We pray that God touches the hearts of our leaders to do what is right. Leadership is a responsibility given by God, and it must be exercised with conscience and sincerity for the good of the common man".

On the 2027 elections, Hassan maintained that CAN is non-partisan but encouraged citizens to vote for candidates of integrity and competence, regardless of religious affiliation.

“Let your conscience guide you. Whether Muslim or Christian, choose leaders who are upright and capable. Such individuals are the ones who can move Nigeria forward,” he advised.

He further expressed concern over persistent insecurity, suggesting that a stronger political will is required to address the situation effectively, while reiterating that prayers remain a vital tool in seeking lasting solutions.
