In a move to enhance electricity supply and drive 24-hour power availability, the Edo State Government has issued a provisional licence to CCETC Ogua Energy Limited for the generation and distribution of 100 megawatts of electricity in Ologbo, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.
The government said the initiative aligns with its commitment to liberalising the power sector in line with the Electricity Act, 2023, and the Edo State Electricity Law, 2025.
Presenting the licence, the Commissioner for Power, Paul Usenbo, described the development as a major milestone in the state’s pursuit of energy security and economic expansion. He noted that the project would play a critical role in improving electricity access and supporting industrial growth.
Usenbo explained that the Ologbo power project is strategically positioned to strengthen power supply, stimulate economic activities, generate employment, and enhance the overall standard of living for residents.
He also reminded the developers, particularly the Chinese firms involved, that the licence comes with clear obligations, including strict adherence to regulatory guidelines and environmental standards.
The commissioner emphasised that the state government would continue to create an enabling environment for private sector participation in the energy sector, aimed at delivering reliable and sustainable electricity to households and businesses across Edo.
According to him, "Edo State remains open and committed to providing a stable and investor-friendly environment.
"With the issuance, we are hopeful that by the end of the last quarter of this year, there will be reliable power, industrial growth, jobs, and more energised, befitting economic development across the state.
"This is power for the people. It will spread across the state. Reforms being carried out will ensure the people get an adequate electricity supply."
On his part, the Managing Director of Tihuan Industrial Park, Jiang Fan, promised to deliver the project within the stipulated time.
He said the firm would abide by the regulatory framework.
Edo Commissioner for Business, Trade and Investment, Omoh Anabor, assured the firm of a good business environment.
