Leaders, stakeholders and youths of All Progressives Congress in Ise/Orun Local Government Area of Ekiti State have opposed alleged attempt to impose an aspirant ahead of the 2027 general election.

The stakeholders expressed concern about a directive reportedly conveyed by the APC Chairman in Ise, Dare Idowu, presenting Toyin Okoro as a preferred aspirant without wider consultation with party leaders and grassroots members.

The party leaders declared support for the serving member of the House of Representatives representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency I, Adeniyi Ojuawo, insisting that his stellar performance in office deserves another term.

Addressing reporters in Ise-Ekiti, a party leader and former commissioner in the Local Government Service Commission, Femi Babalola, condemned what he described as a growing trend of imposition within the party.

He said the alleged endorsement did not reflect the collective will of stakeholders, stressing that consensus must involve broad agreement among party leaders.

Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Femi Ajayi, clarified that the state government had not endorsed any aspirant for the forthcoming elections.

He said the Electoral Act signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu mandated parties to conduct direct primaries where consensus could not be reached, urging aspirants to seek the mandate of party members.
