Ekiti State Government has approved a 50 per cent subsidy on tractorisation services for farmers ahead of the 2026 planting season.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade, in a statement on Saturday, said the initiative was aimed at boosting agricultural productivity across the state.

Boluwade said that the subsidy would cover ploughing, harrowing, and ridging of farmlands, noting that farmers would now pay N45,000 per hectare for ploughing as against the N90,000 market rate.

He added that harrowing and ridging would cost N32,500 per hectare each, reduced from N65,000.

He attributed the slight increase in the subsidised rates compared to last year to rising diesel costs, linked to ongoing global tensions involving Iran and the United States/Israel.

He, however, noted that the prices could be reviewed downward if fuel costs decline.

Boluwade stated that farmers interested in the scheme must meet certain conditions, including a maximum of five hectares per farmer and verification by ministry engineers to ensure that the land had not been tractorised within the last 12 months.

He added that payment would only be made after confirmation that the land is suitable for tractorisation, assuring that service providers would mobilise to project sites within 48 hours of payment.

He urged interested farmers to contact designated numbers based on their senatorial districts.

” This is the fourth time the State Government will be subsidising the Tractorization Support Scheme for farmers in the State.

” The Scheme started in 2023 and it has captured so many farmers and improved productivity among the small holder farmers. The list of approved Mechanisation Service Providers allocated to every farmstead has been circulated widely within the state", the commissioner added.
